Mandela Day 2019 | Creating a thriving social enterprise thanks to CSR involvement in South Africa

Updated: Oct 16, 2020

What an incredible three-day Mandela Day event! Over 100 volunteers came together at Siseko Educare to plant vegetable garden beds and paint an informational mural all to improve countless lives through Food Security and Education. Check out below what we accomplished together!

Preparations began several days prior to July 18. This included:

+ Walls power-washed, sanded, & primed

+ Stencils prepared for the mural

+ Tent set up to provide shelter (rain couldn't stop us!)

+ Garden infrastructure prebuilt

+ Restaurant resources set up, meals planned, and ready to be served to the public

Mandela Day 1: Started off with a bang--over 80 volunteers on site from Prodigy Finance, African Bush Camps, Ecolution Consulting and PPECB. Educational murals were painted, water-wise vegetable gardens were built, and the newly established restaurant served its very first delicious meals!

Mandela Day 2 was accomplished with the help of volunteers from Prodigy Finance and PPECB. The educational mural continued to expand, more gardens were built and planted, and the restaurant was able to feed yet another group. As a plus, the sun showed up for a bit!

Mandela Day 3 was accomplished thanks to Connect 123 and UCT's Smile team. The gardens were all completed while the remainder of the murals were painted.
