Call 2 Care could not be prouder to be a witness of the establishment of a beautiful bond between two sister schools: Mountain View Academy located in Monte Vista and The Philile Project's Program in Gugulethu. On Thursday, 21 June 2018, the educators from Mountain View Academy whom on behalf of their students' efforts, brought over a trolley full of food and stationary for the Gugulethu students including delicious sweet treats. According to Danielle Winzer, an educator at Mountain View Academy, "One of our children was even making pencil bags and selling them for funds so that she can buy some more food. How cool is that! I am so proud of them!". The educators from Mountain View Academy were welcomed with an authentic dance expressive of joy and thanks that delighted all in the room.
Call 2 Care support the Gugulethu community with The Philile Project, an education and wellness program which currently accommodates over 50 primary school children from the ages of 7 years to 13 years from various schools located in the Gugulethu community. The Philile Project is currently hosted at Siseko Educare facilities where our water-wise vegetable gardens are located as well - which forms part of Call 2 Care's The iGardi Project. This Philile Project program was developed to provide these children with a educational, empowering yet stimulating after school activity as well as a safe and nurturing environment while they wait for their parents to come home from work.
Research conducted by Australia's Department of Education and Early Childhood Development shows that sister school programs have a significant positive effect on the global awareness and attitudes of school students, serves in creating opportunities for sharing pedagogies and engaging in joint curriculum development, personal development of the student including leadership, maturity, independence, and many more other benefits.
We could not be more thankful to Mountain View Academy for the support of the children in our care and look forward to facilitating the next engagement between these two sister schools.
