Paint & Sip is a fun and unique way to uncork your creativity as an experienced local professional artist takes you step by step through the process of unleashing your inner Van Gogh to recreate your own masterpiece. Participating at our usual events you get: a canvas, paint, brushes, a professional art lesson, delicious meal, and of course a free glass of wine to sip on while our featured artist takes you through recreating a masterpiece. All proceeds go towards funding Call 2 Care's (NPO) Service Projects. At our resident 91 Loop street venue, we empower local artists by providing a venue to exhibit their masterpieces for the popular Cape Town First Thursday and the duration of the month - all art sales go directly to the featured artist.
We are delighted to feature Joanna Cooke for our October Paint & Sip event. Joanna Cooke grew up in Johannesburg and moved to Cape Town in 1992. Jo has been a member of the South African Society for Artists since 2011. She exhibits regularly through SASA at Kirstenbosch Gardens in Cape Town, from her home in Cape Town, and has also exhibited at the Groot Constantia Gallery. She started painting formally at age 38; although she has always had a love for figure drawing and illustration, joining an art class gave her the tutoring to begin painting and take up art more seriously. As the owner of a corporate training consultancy, many years of building a business had allowed little time to nurture her artistic side formally, so she began to slowly develop a portfolio of works in her spare time.Having been an adult teacher and facilitator of personal and leadership development programmes for 25 years, she now gives art classes to adults and children. She believes everyone is creative and needs to nurture their creative side to achieve personal harmony and growth. She works in oil, pencil, pastel and ink. “I’m constantly finding new sources of inspiration but find the thread that runs through all my work is capturing spirit, mood, life and light in the movement or expressions of the people and animals I paint and draw”. Jo is also a part-time musician and singer.
